Situated at the foot of Montefranco, where they are well protected, the ancient vines here produce extremely high quality, small-berried, phenol-rich grapes that are of outstanding quality. This high cordon is the subject of intense manual labour to select the bunches of grapes individually. Only a few, and those with the smallest berries, remain on the vine. The hand-selected grapes of this single estate are then aged in new and used barrique barrels into true greats. A zesty, powerful and durable Merlot Riserva, that is entirely capable of holding its own with the biggest names in its class.
The variety of Merlot has its origins in the French wine area Bordeaux and has been cultivated in South Tyrol for more than 100 years now. This variety is a rarity in the assortment of the Eberlehof, since it is cultivated only to a small extent. After the controlled mash fermentation, the new wine matured in small oak barrels, which provides it with particular harmony and elegance.
Deep red in colour; with a bouquet of ripe berry fruit, cassis and a hint of well integrated oak; black cherries and spices on the palate, underpinned by assertive but supple tannins; full-bodied, fine balanced, rich and long.
The majestic Gantkofel- the mighty mountain dominating the landscape of Andriano - stands guard over the gently rolling hillsides and their vineyards of the broad Adige Valley. One single image - immobile within the flow of time. A sigh of yearning melts into the immense breath of nature that infuses all, the flow of the seasons caresses the vine-clad hills. Pearl-like, the berries enfold a treasure that man will unveil, only to be once more hidden, flowing into a bottle, there to rest, silent; waiting, until the moment the curtains rise and it will be there, center staged, the Star. Experience will then become memory, imprinted on heart and mind: kunst.stück, artwork.
The name of this grape varietal is derived from French “le merle”, the blackbird. An early-ripening varietal, Merlot offers intense aromas of red and dark fruit (cherry, plum, blackcurrant) and spiciness (cloves, oregano, leather). A fruity, full-bodied wine with ripe, soft tannin and southern charm. In the glass Merlot is cherry to dark red. When drunk young, Merlot goes well with many dishes, especially mediterranean cuisine.
Originally from Bordeaux, Merlot has been producing impressive wines in South Tyrol for well over a century. Full, vivid ruby in colour, the nose shows plums, spice and forest berry fruits, while on the palate it is full-bodied and elegant, medium-rich, round, ripe with the smooth tannins typical of the Merlot grape, moving on to a long, full finish.
Merlot, one of the noble grape varieties, has been cultivated in Alto Adige for more than a hundred years. The grapes for this fruity and zesty wine, with its typical light vegetal notes, are harvested from selected vineyards.
The color of the Merlot is garnet red. Notes of elderberries, berries and dried figs are enriched with spicy aromas of fresh ground pepper and star anise. On the palate, the wine conquers with great freshness, articulated structure, fullness and firm tannins, which reveals roasted and vanilla notes and ends with a long finish.
The Brenntal location north of the village of Kurtatsch belongs among the warmest locations ( up to 40°C/104°F) in Alto Adige. The vines on these steep slopes with its intensive sunshine grow on red, sandy loam. In the evening, the fleshy grapes are cooled by fresh fall winds. This unique terroir produces a Merlot which stands because of its power and dark fruitiness (lingonberries, blackberries), but at the same time retains its Alpine character (green tea, white pepper). This fruit is joined on the palate by dense, velvety tannins. Delicate acidity gives the wine balance and an impressively long finish.
A dry rosé, bright salmon-pink in color, with fine fruit flavors and aromas of raspberry and fruit drops. A round body on the palate is held together with a balanced acidity and a hint of finely structured tannins.
THE GRAND ONE Curtain up for one of the true greats! On the so-called Huberfeld below Missian is where the Merlot of the same name grows. The deep, chalky alluvial soil and the heat-retaining surroundings provide this red wine with all it needs for its intense, unique properties. The field also resembles a natural amphitheatre, granting Huberfeld the backdrop it deserves.
