Palate

The refined cherry and almond hints entice the first sip. Despite its succulent, structured character, it is straightforward and lean on the palate, with notes of rosehip, cherry and blood oranges.
We also love it because it perfectly reflects our landscape and our local lifestyle: that is why we reserve a place of honour for it in our daily lives.

Growing Conditions

The Santa Maddalena ripens in the classic cultivation area of the same name, on soils composed of moraine detritus of porphyry and dolomite, very airy and well placed to gather heat.

Our Schiava (Vernatsch) grapes traditionally grow on the “pergola” training system with some 5% of Lagrein planted in the vineyard. Both are then harvested and fermented together.

Winemaking

The CLASSICO made of 95 per cent Vernatsch and 5 per cent Lagrein show what a St. Magdalener is capable of. It is approachable and charming, with its impressive bright ruby red colour. Pronounced fruit combines with mild acidity and velvety tannins to create a lively and refined blend. We love our CLASSICO because it fits so well into our landscape and our way of life.
At the end of the harvest, the grapes are carefully trimmed and the juice is fermented for approximately 10 days at a controlled temperature in steel barrels. After the malolactic fermentation, the wine is aged in steel tanks.

Appearance

CLASSICO sparkles vibrantly in the glass and has an attractive red berry nose.

Food Pairing

Traditional and at the same time modern, CLASSICO is able to adapt, and proves to be an enjoyable accompaniment to a vast array of South Tyrol, Mediterranean and Asian dishes. Chilled, but not cold, it is uncomplicated and absolutely easy going, without ever being banal.
