Girlan Chardonnay Bottle Preview
GirlanChardonnay

Production area Chardonnay is grown on the hillside vineyards of the cru "Girlan" at an altitudes ranging from 450 to 500 m above sea level, and from the vineyards located in the Bassa Atesina in well aired vineyards. The area in which they are grown is rich in minerals, the result of ice age sedimentation. Winemaking The grapes are picked by hand and placed in small containers to prevent excess pressure on the grapes. Gentle pressing and clarification of the must by natural sedimentation. Fermentation in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature and aging on the lees in stainless steel tanks. Tasting notes & food matching The cultivation of the Chardonnay grapes has a long tradition at Girlan. Their dry, particularly fine and delicate aroma, with a full-bodied, elegant and lively palate make Chardonnay a much-appreciated aperitif wine and it is also served with hors d’oeuvres, fish and white meats.

Tasting notes & food matching Pinot Grigio has small bunches of rust-coloured, almost brownish grapes; sometimes Pinot Bianco and Pinot Grigio grapes can be found on the same vine and belong to the same family of Burgundy Pinots. It has a soft, delicate palate that is a nice accompaniment for asparagus, fish and delicate meats.

Production area For this extraordinary wine we choose the best Sauvignon grapes from the hillside vineyards of the cru "Girlan", "Montiggl", "Eppan Berg" at an altitude of 500 m above sea level. The different combination of soils, from clay to lime and gravel is what gives this wine its unique character. Winemaking The grapes are picked by hand and placed in small containers to prevent excess pressure on the grapes. Gentle whole cluster pressing and clarification of the must by natural sedimentation. Fermentation in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature. Aging on the lees for 8 months in stainless steel tanks and large oak barrels without malolatic fermentation. Tasting notes & food matching The Sauvignon grape varietal grows in Alto Adige since more than a century. An intense bouquet of nettle and elderflower and a fresh lively flavour are typical qualities of this wine. The mineral nature and fresh acidity balance out in the aromas. A wine that adapts well to accompany fish, shellfish, asparagus and white meat dishes.

Production area Years of thorough research and countless tests with mini production volumes were the cornerstone for this wine. The grapes for this wine derive from 3 selected vineyards within the cru "Girlan" at 500 meters a.s.l. The vineyards are exposed to the east and west respectively and cover a total area of 1.2 hectares. The 20-25 year old vines grow on poor and gravelly soils, formed by morainic deposit on a subsoil of volcanic porphyry rock. Winemaking The fully mature grapes are harvested manually at mid of September and delivered in small containers. After destemming, the grapes are filled by gravity into the steel tanks for the alcoholic fermentation (25 days). Following the malolactic fermentation, the wine ages in barriques for 20 months. Finally, the wine is stored for furhter 18 months in the bottle. Tasting notes & food matching Intense ruby red with aromas of wild berries, sour cherries and pronounced herbal spice. The wine presents itself elegant and opulent at the same time. It has a complex structure with well-developed and juicy tannins. This wine accompanies main courses based on red meat, roast and game. It perfectly fits aged cheeses, too.
