Palate

The character of this wine can be described as complex and expressive, as was that of Maria Ebnicher Ramoser, who inherited the lilac farm in 1930 from her uncle and brought our family to St. Magdalena. Lovingly she was called “Marie”.

Growing Conditions

After several years of experimenting with the cultivation and vinification of our Vernatsch and Lagrein grapes, the 2016 vintage was the first time that a selection line of our St. Magdalener Classico was filled into the bottles. Stone rich, deep soils on porphyry bedrock characterize the vegetation of the vineyards and the vinified wines.

More than 50-year-old vines, which do not require any yield-regulating measures, have loose grape structures and also produce small-berry grapes for this variety, are selected from all our vineyards.

- Production area: Classical St. Magdalener area, 300-340 m above sea level. M.

- Method of cultivation: Pergola

- Soil: Loamy moraine debris, river gravel, sand inclusions and weathering of the quartz porphyry

Harvest

The “Gran” in the name of our wine stands exactly for this step in the harvest. According to our ideas, this wine is the best grape quality that the vintage brought us from all our vineyards.
