A brief history

The small hamlet of Mazzon is located above Neumarkt in the South Tyrolean Unterland. Framed by a magnificent cultural landscape, old farms and residences and the forests of the Trudener Horn nature park, this region is known far beyond the country's borders as one of the best Pinot Noir locations in Italy. This terrace east of the Etschufer has always been referred to as Italy's "Pinot Noir Heaven".

Pinot Noir has been the main crop in Mazzon since the middle of the 19th century due to the climate and soil conditions. It was recognized early on that a similar basis was found here for the cultivation of Pinot Noir, which comes very close to its homeland, Burgundy.

"The best South Tyrolean Pinot Noir certainly doesn't only grow in Mazzon, but the locations here are certainly among the best that South Tyrol has to offer for this difficult grape variety," say Michela Carlotto and Peter Dipoli in their informative book about Pinot Noir from Mazzon. " Every South Tyrolean producer who can call a plot of land his own here will certainly be the envy of everyone else who has to do without Pinot Noir grapes from this origin."

In addition to our vineyards, there are also the locations of well-known South Tyrolean top producers such as the Hofstätter winery, Franz Haas, the Girlan winery, and the Nals-Margreid winery, to name just a few.
