Sometimes you have to look back some way to understand how wines of character are created. You have to recall winds and waters that have moved sand and stones from one place to another... Thus too was Lehmont created: “Lehm [clay]” and “Mont [mountain]” indicates how the soil formed it while the mountain freshened it. The elegance and fine style of this Pinot Nero ensure that it retains its incomparable essence.

Lagröll is a ruby-red loner, one that likes to do its own thing. Its home is on a hill, exposed to the elements and remote from the hustle and bustle of St. Pauls. From here it looks westwards, down onto its relatives in the city, energetically storing the afternoon and evening sun – continuing to work when all others are long since at rest. This is a Lagrein that the debris and gravel lets grow deep and unconstrained, both by day and by night.

It has more than a century under its belt yet has lost none of its strength – quite the contrary, in fact. Sanctissimus is powerful and stately, all the way from its stocky vines to the very extremities of its ancient roots. This Pinot Bianco can stand proud among the exceptionally opulent wines, holding its own in every regard. Grown on the extremely steep slopes of the south-facing Vigna location below the church in Missian, then aged in clay amphora, Sanctissimus is truly the jewel in the winery’s crown.

Some love stories take a little more time to achieve a happy ending – and so it is with the Missianer. But, once you get to know it, it feels genuine and alive. You know exactly what you are getting, because it is as it is: an idiosyncratic, exciting, primal Vernatsch. And most definitely a faithful soul.

The Romans themselves knew how to make use of the particularly fertile soil around the village of St. Pauls, not to mention the light and the downwinds that characterise this location: Luzia is a luminous, deep Blauburgunder (Pinot Nero) that pays homage to the Roman villa whose remains still stand above the Luzia vines today.

What stories could the grandfather of the St. Pauls Pinot Bianco tell us?There, at the foot of the Gantkofel mountain, where the Dolomites end, the powerful vines have been digging deep into the earth since ancient times and feeding off the mineral-rich limestone dolomite rock. And thus the multi-layered Kalkberg whispers to us of the strength of the elements, bewitching us with its unique character: wide-ranging and amazingly deep.

Immensely rich, yet modest. Advanced in years, yet persistent. Its most prominent attribute? The mineral-rich limestone soil on which Schliff thrives! With its deep roots, this Sauvignon can forcefully penetrate the scrap of earth upon which it grows. This deep-rooted attachment to Mother Earth is just what makes it so surprisingly rich in content – yet at the same time both structured and accentuated.

Fresh, fruity and juicy – this is the Cuvée. The label of Cuvée PAUL illustrates the combination of origin, location and vines. Our most important grape varieties form a blend that expresses pure joy of life. A fragrant white wine with floral notes and exotic fruits. Juicy with animated freshness and fruitiness.

Curtain up for one of the true greats! On the so-called Huberfeld below Missian is where the Merlot of the same name grows. The deep, chalky alluvial soil and the heat-retaining surroundings provide this red wine with all it needs for its intense, unique properties. The field also resembles a natural amphitheatre, granting Huberfeld the backdrop it deserves.

Life for Löss is truly not so easy: its vines have to sink their roots particularly deep, as it grows where the slope suddenly drops 120 metres from the Paulsner Feld steeply down into the Warth Valley. The Pinot Grigio thus draws all the more strength from the intense sunlight and the mineral-rich loess soil. The steep slope is a major challenge for vines and winegrowers alike – making them equally strong, enduring and resilient.

With warm Mediterranean temperatures during the day, cool evening breezes, wide green spaces to breathe in and magnificent residences to admire: even before the planting of one of the first Sauvignon vineyards, the slightly hilly, magical Gfiller locality was popular with those seeking peace, quiet and respite from the heat. This is where northerly and southerly winds encounter the cool downwinds from the Mendel Ridge to lend this Sauvignon, which thrives in the moraine soil, an incomparable freshness.

There are places that radiate joy and possess a very special aura. The Chapel of St. Justina watches over St. Paul’s proudly and gracefully, giving not only its name to the vines that surround it, but also an immense radiance. Here the Gewürztraminer draws its energy from the historic, sacred location while at the same time feeding on the morning sun and the nutritious, warm clay soil.

Its deep red draws the gaze into bygone times: the Lagrein grape took root in the warm location of the village centuries ago and has lived there on the fertile alluvial soil ever since. The characteristic Lagrein was deemed a “vino bono” as early as the Middle Ages, a label that is still thoroughly deserved: Zobl still holds the lively village centre and its spirits – unmistakable and primal in nature – all together in its embrace.

This wine takes centre stage under a very special spotlight, namely an exceptionally luminous hill in the village of Missian, watched over by the Church of St. Apollonia! Turmfeld looks proudly out over Unterrain and Bozen while the warm rays shine on its leaves and energy flows constantly through its veins. This Cabernet is a true sun-worshipper – delightful, sublime and exciting, and one that likes to draw attention to itself.

You might think that the winemaker had forgotten it, but no, Aurie just wanted to wait a little longer. Only in late autumn, when winter’s chill begins to be felt, are the Petit Manseng grapes ready to be made into a unique, delightfully sweet wine. Aurie is for open minds and special occasions – delicate, eclectic, unconventional, golden. A surprise such as this will not easily be forgotten.

Harmony and freshness since 1979.

At the gates of the wine village of St. Pauls stands a particularly fertile, sandy and sun-kissed hill. It is all that remains of a glacial lake and is the former seat of Fuchsberg Castle, which gives this wine its name. Today Fuxberg thrives here in magnificent style: exotic, diverse, fresh... with a gleaming yellow that is almost as bright as the celestial bodies.

In the past, when South Tyrol was still a land of red wines, the hilly area around the Plötznerhof above Boymont Castle offered a chance to the grape of the Pinot Bianco. The meeting of the bleak limestone soil with the heat-retaining, quartz-rich porphyry rock and the cool mountain winds mean that this small, largely dry patch of earth offers ideal conditions for a Pinot Bianco with considerable depth of soul – then as now.
