The Ignaz Niedrist winery is a small family-run business situated at the heart of the wine growing area of Oltradige in Cornaiano. 
The family have owned the winery for over 170 years, but political and social circumstances during the two World Wars have forced their ancestors to quit the wine production. Only in 1989, Ignaz and Elisabeth Niedrist, reactivated the winery with the clear objective of producing quality bottled wines. Since then, the daily family life cycled around vineyard works and wine making. Only recently, the next generation Maria and Johannes joined the family business.
Niedrists vineyards are located in three places very different in their characteristics: Cornaiano, the sunny side, with glacial morainic soils; Appiano Monte, the cooler place reaching from 1600 to 2000 feet above sea level, with early shadowing in the evening, fresh ventilation and clay soils with high content of chalk; and Gries, near Bolzano, the warm and sandy spot.
Quality is rooted in the vineyards; therefore, they are focusing on sustainable and gentle practices and pay great importance to the characteristics of soils and climatic circumstances.
With knowledge acquired over generations, continuous studying and dedication to manual working all Niedrist family members are committed to produce wines representing their places of origin, wines with character and vitality.

Pale straw color, very varietal specific aroma of herbs, gooseberry, and a hint of apricot. These aromas carry through onto the palate, which is rich but with excellent fresh acidity; very long finish. Great with seafood or cured meat antipasti.

Alto Adige Sauvignon DOC Porphyr & Kalk

The grapes are grown on east-facing slopes with calcareous soils in Appiano Monte at 480 – 600 meters a.s.l. Only stainless steel is used in the vinification process in order to fully preserve the wine’s delicate apple notes.
Pale straw color in the glass; wet-stone aromas with hints of green apple and herbs; fresh, long and minerally on the palate.
Drink with seafood or vegetable appetisers.
